Scammer claims to be member of Sheriff's department

On September 14, 2016, authorities with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department received several complaints of a possible scam call that was being placed throughout the county.

The scammer claims to be a member of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department or Lawrence Central Dispatch and states an active warrant is on file for the call receiver and attempts to extort money. At times, the scammer has used actual names of department members.

Please be assured neither the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department nor the Lawrence Central Dispatch conducts business in this way. If you should receive a call regarding this scam the best approach is to terminate the phone call and do not have any further communication with the scammer.
