Burglars bust through wall to break into store
Lawrenceburg Now
Employees of a local market reported for work last week to find that someone had busted through a wall in order to gain entry to the building.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department indicate that employees discovered the burglary at Taz Mart, located at 1102 West Gaines Street, just after 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Reports show that those responsible for the crime made three initial attempts to gain entry, breaking through the exterior wall only to find obstructions on the inside. After making a fourth hole in the wall they were able to gain entry into a storage room, then make their way into the store. Officers reported finding an axe at the rear of the building that was used to bust through the walls.
Once inside, video surveillance revealed that a lone suspect opened the two cash registers, took the cash inside, then left by way of the storage room. Owners estimated that the thief made off with some $4,266 in cash and caused another $1,000 worth of damage.
The case currently remains under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact the police department at 931-762-2276.
