Warrants obtained in wake of police chase

Lawrenceburg Now

Police officers obtained warrants against a St. Joseph man Friday after he allegedly fled from them and led them on a chase.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that an officer on patrol stopped at Quik Mart #6 on East Gaines Street just after 1:00 a.m., noticing that a man was slumped over in the driver’s seat of a black Dodge truck in the parking lot. The officer reports he knocked on the window and was able to rouse the man, who told him he was merely sleeping.

Reports show that while the officer was running a check on the license plate number through Lawrence Central Dispatch, two Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies pulled into the parking lot and began to approach the vehicle, as well.

The reporting officer notes that the man began to reach into the floorboard at which point officers ordered him to show them his hands. Instead, they report that he put the vehicle in drive and fled from the parking lot.

The officer and deputies pursued the driver, identified as thirty-six year old Kyle Donald Davis of 144 Penny Road, St. Joseph, east on Gaines to the city limits. The police officer discontinued his pursuit at the city limits, however deputies continued into Giles County. Deputies followed Davis for nearly twenty minutes, but eventually terminated their pursuit, as well.

Reports show that the reporting officer obtained warrants, charging Davis with driving on a revoked license and evading arrest. The warrants were left at the sheriff’s department to be served at a later time.
