Playground And Pavilion At Bobby Brewer Park Being Relocated
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg officials said Thursday that the playground and pavilion at Bobby Brewer Memorial Park are currently being relocated and will not be available for public use for the time being.
Lawrenceburg City Administrator Chris Shaffer gave a progress report to members of the city’s Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning. Shaffer said that the playground and pavilion area that had been situated near the park entrance off of Weakley Creek Road, has been selected as the most accessible site on which to construct a Miracle Field to serve the needs of individuals with various types of disabilities. Members of the community along with businesses and industries have contributed thousands of dollars through Abigail’s Plan to bring the project to fruition.
The playground and pavilion are being relocated to a shady area in the park that lies between the soccer fields and the youth football field.
Public Works Department Manager Jerry Smith told the council, “We haven’t got the shelter (pavilion) down yet and we lack one piece of the playground equipment.” He said he is awaiting advice from the Municipal Technical Advisory Service regarding the safest way to route traffic through the area to ensure the safety of even the youngest of park patrons.
Smith said they plan to continue improvement projects that will make the park more accessible to all. “In time,” he said, “We’re going to do some sidewalks in that area to tie it all together and tie it into the street. That way there’ll be smooth access from the parking lot to the playground area.”
