Money sent to Nigeria in fraud incident
Lawrenceburg Now
A Lawrenceburg woman filed a complaint with police officers on Tuesday, indicating that she had paid money to a person overseas in the hopes of receiving a large payoff, only to discover she had been targeted in a scam.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department officers spoke with the victim at her Kramer Avenue residence shortly before 7:00 p.m.
She reported that she had received messages from a person identified as “Junad Ola.” The caller informed her that, if she sent money as requested, she would receive $50,000.
The victim said that she did as instructed, sending three payments. The first and second payments were made through Western Union, for the amounts of $150 and $100.
The third, she sent through Money Gram in the amount of $100. She told officers that all three payments had been sent to an address in Nigeria. Altogether, she was bilked out of $350.
Law enforcement authorities remind residents never to send or give money to anyone in the hopes of receiving a large payoff, prizes, or prize money. Should you be contacted in such a manner, they suggest that you give out no information. Instead, contact a local law enforcement agency. The Lawrenceburg Police Department may be reached at 931-762-2276. Contact the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department at 931-762-3626.
