Safes, cash and medications targeted in recent home burglaries
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg Police officers were busy Friday and Saturday investigating a number of home burglaries during which burglars targeted safes, cash and prescription medications.
Officers were called to a Hoffman Street home around 10:00 p.m. Friday where the sixty-four year old resident reported that someone had broken into his home while he and his girlfriend were attending a football game.
Reports show that the glass was shattered on the back door to allow entry. Inside, the victim said the person responsible had passed up numerous items of value. The only item missing was a safe that had been secured with a chain in his bedroom closet.
Burglars cut the chain and took the entire safe, which contained $1,000 worth of Walmart gift cards, important personal documents, a jacket, prescription medications, $500 worth of silver dollars, and $8,000 in cash. Altogether, the victim experienced a loss of around $10,190.
Just a short time later, officers were called to the Good Hope Road home of the first victim’s girlfriend. She reported that her home had also been burglarized while they attended the football game. She made the discovery when she returned to her house at around midnight.
She said that the front door was left standing open and that, just as in the first incident, her safe had been stolen out of her bedroom closet. She said that the safe contained her blank checks, prescription medications, and $300 in cash. Reports show that the culprit likely gained entry through a bedroom window. Nothing else in the home appeared to be missing. Total loss was said to be $500.
A considerable sum of cash was stolen during the burglary of an outbuilding and home on Stephens Street Saturday. The nineteen year old victim reported the matter to police officers just after 1:00 p.m.
Reports show that there was damage to the metal on the outbuilding and that a tub that contained various power woodworking tools was found lying outside. The victim said that the only thing that appeared to be missing was $500 cash that she had kept in a box. Reports show that the home was entered, as well. Although it was rummaged through, the victim said nothing appeared to be missing.
A number of prescription medications were stolen out of a closet inside of a Second Street home. Police officers responded to the home just before 9:00 p.m. Saturday. Missing were hydrocodone, diazepam, and Ambien pills. The victim estimated her loss to total $144.
Each of the cases currently remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information regarding any of the crimes is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-2276.
