Incident involving inhalants results in Saturday arrest
Lawrenceburg Now
Charges resulted against a Loretto man during the weekend when emergency personnel were dispatched to a motel to check his wellbeing.
Members of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service were initially dispatched to David Crockett Motel on East Gaines Street just before 7:00 p.m. They then requested that Lawrenceburg Police officers be dispatched to the scene, as well.
Officers report that they arrived to find twenty-seven year old Michael Veston Cox lying on the floor in one of the rooms “with an air duster can up to his mouth inhaling it.”
The reporting officer indicates that when he asked Cox about the situation, he told him “he just liked getting high.” He reportedly told officers that he was not trying to injure himself, “but had been inhaling for a long time to quit using methamphetamine.”
Reports show that there were numerous cans of compressed air in the motel room. Cox refused medical attention or transport to the hospital and was subsequently placed under arrest. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of use of an inhalant for unlawful purposes. Bond was set at $5,000.
Cox has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on October 6, 2016.
