Tuesday Crime Report
Lawrenceburg Now
Theft
Police officers answered a call to Admiral Circle last week where the victim was performing work in a remodeling project. He reported that, while he was away for lunch, someone stole a Dewalt brand impact driver and battery charger valued at $200. Entry was likely gained through an unsecured rear door. The victim told officers that, although a radio had been unplugged and moved, it was not stolen.
Theft
Officers spoke with a Whipporwill Drive resident who indicated that someone had stolen prescription medication from her makeup bag, next to her recliner, while she slept the previous night. Loss was said to be $130.
Aggravated burglary
Officers answered a call to Delana Avenue where the victim, age 54, reported some of her belongings had been stolen while she was in the process of moving. She said she had inadvertently left the door to the attached garage unlocked and returned to find that her gas pressure washer had been stolen. Value was $450.
Theft
Deputies responded to a Mattoxtown Road residence where residents reported a $200 loss that resulted from a theft incident. The first victim indicated that he had been in the process of moving when some of his prescription medications went missing, including prescription strength Ibuprofen and Codeine tablets. A second resident reported that a homemade wine rack with a cutting board on top of it had been stolen.
Fraud
Officers investigated a fraud incident involving the purchase of a cell phone. The matter was reported by a twenty year old Pulaski woman. She told officers that she had made arrangements on a Facebook sale site to purchase an iPhone 6s. She had met with the seller in Lawrenceburg and paid her $235. Once she was back at home, however, she said she discovered that the phone had been "black listed" for theft.
Theft/vandalism
Security personnel at Walmart reported to police officers that they had attempted to detain a man who had forced open two security keeper boxes - one containing an Xbox One game, the other a PS4 game, and attempted to steal the contents. Once he realized personnel were approaching him, they said he threw the games back into the store, then ran to his car, got inside, and fled in the direction of Ethridge.
Shoplifting
Walmart security personnel reported to police officers that a woman accused of shoplifting had been detained. The shoplifter, identified as thirty-eight year old Brandy Denenne Staggs of 104 Cherry Street, Mt. Pleasant, told officers that the employees "just never gave her a chance to pay for the items." The value of the items combined with damages to packages totaled $1,388.95. Staggs was arrested on charges of theft over $1,000 and vandalism and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Bond was set at $11,000. She has been scheduled an appearance in General Sessions Court on September 25, 2017.
Vandalism
A resident of apartments on Bluff Drive reported to police officers a broken taillight lens cover and damage to the quarter panel of her 2006 Chevrolet Impala. Paint had also been peeled off of the bumper. Altogether, damages were estimated to total $1,000.
Fraudulent use of debit card
A local business owner spoke with police officers at his Captain Drive home, indicating that someone had fraudulently used his debit card information to make $287.22 worth of purchases. The purchases were made through PayPal, Amazon and Apple iTunes.
Vehicle burglary
Officers investigated the burglary of a vehicle at a Geri Street residence where the victim reported a $300 loss. She told officers that someone entered her vehicle overnight, leaving the glove box open. Missing was an iPhone 6 that had not yet been activated.
Aggravated burglary
The burglary of a Jackson Street home resulted in a $900 loss for the resident. He reported his 55" Samsung TV was stolen along with his medications. Entry was gained through a kitchen window. The culprit rummaged through a bathroom and the kitchen, leaving all of the cabinet doors open. Damage was reported to the window screen, as well.
Theft
Police officers were called to Shan's One Stop on West Gaines Street where store officials reported that a "white male keeps coming into the business" between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 a.m., messing with the breaker box and quarter machine. The complainant said she does have video surveillance showing several occasions where the man used a stick to knock quarters out of the machine. To date, she said he had made off with approximately $300 worth of quarters.
Horse shooting
West Point residents suffered a $1,000 loss when someone shot and killed their quarter horse. The owner's son reported that he had gone to the pasture at around 6:00 a.m. and found the horse dead from what appeared to be a small-caliber gunshot. He said she had been okay at 7:00 p.m. the previous day. He said he had heard some people shooting the previous night and that it sounded as if they were target shooting near the area where the horse was kept.
Burglary
Deputies investigated the burglary of a residence on Fall River Road where the residents reported damages and loss totaling around $2,000. Damages was found to a sliding door and frame, window, and the front door frame. Items missing included binoculars, and a variety of tools.
Vandalism
Police officers were asked to investigate recently when it was discovered that someone had broken two locks off of a Railroad box at the First Street crossing and tampered with it. The box was opened and the power switched off. This caused the batteries to drain, rendering the signal inoperable when a train passed by. Damages were estimated at $150.
Theft
Police officers recently investigated a report of stolen gold mining equipment. The owner reported that she was uncertain when the crime occurred, but that the equipment taken had a combined value of $1,548.
