Authorities asked to investigate drug use in city drainage system

Lawrenceburg Now

Law enforcement officials report that drugs and evidence of drug use were found when, acting on a tip, they checked a portion of the City of Lawrenceburg's drainage system recently.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report receiving a citizen tip indicating that several individuals habitually made use of the large storm water channel near Second Street in Lawrenceburg, to indulge in illegal drug abuse out of view of law enforcement officers.

Deputies report walking along the channel in search of signs of drug use in the area. They walked from the Second Street bridge, north through the tunnel and report finding several items of contraband including homemade and glass pipes bearing drug residue, and a small bag of methamphetamine concealed inside of one drainage pipe and syringes concealed in another.

Deputies collected all of the items in the hopes of preventing neighborhood children from coming into contact with them. Investigation into the matter is currently on-going.
