Open Line To 911 Results In Trio Being Arrested On Marijuana Charges
Lawrenceburg Now
Three individuals were arrested last week after an emergency dispatcher reported hearing drug chatter through an open cell phone line.
The dispatcher told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that they had received a 911 call but were unable to make contact with anyone on the line. Listening to the open line, the dispatcher reported hearing persons talking about “rolling another joint” and “weighing a bag that weighed almost a gram.”
Deputies responded to the location where the call originated, on Campground Road. As they approached, they said they saw several individuals sitting around a campfire behind a camper “smoking and talking.” They said that when they made contact the individuals were unaware of the reason for their visit.
Deputies report finding the cell phone that made contact with Central Dispatch and noted that the line was still open. Lying in plain sight on a table, they report, was a small bag of marijuana, two grinders containing marijuana, and a fourteen-day pill box containing marijuana. Altogether eight grams of marijuana was seized.
Two men and two women were sitting within reach of the contraband. One woman informed them that she was eight months pregnant and had not smoked any of the marijuana, nor had she consumed alcohol. Since she exhibited no signs of having done so, she was released.
The other three, William McGrath, age 24, Robert Lawrence Wolford, age 35, and Brandy Nicollete Lile, age 22, all residents of Campground Drive, were taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. Each was charged with the crimes of possession of Schedule VI narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
