Charges Result From Police Chase, Crash
Lawrenceburg Now
Charges were issued against a Leoma man after he reportedly led law enforcement officers on a chase before crashing into a ditch.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies on patrol in the vicinity of Highway 43 South noticed that thirty-six year old Perry Leroy Farmer, against whom they had outstanding warrants, was the driver of a green Toyota car. Once Farmer passed the officers, they report that he accelerated to a high rate of speed and fled.
Farmer led deputies on a chase along Shackleford and Durrett Roads. As they approached the Fuller’s Chapel Road intersection they noticed skid marks leading off the roadway and into a culvert. They found Farmer’s vehicle in the ditch with front-end damage. Both airbags had been deployed and he had apparently fled on foot. Deputies conducted a brief search, soon locating him hiding in a nearby wooded area.
Farmer granted consent for a search of his vehicle. During that search deputies report finding a plastic baggie that contained 2.5 grams of a white crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. A second baggie was found containing less than ½ gram of marijuana. Two plastic pipes and one glass pipe bearing meth residue were seized into evidence along with $252 in cash, believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the crash site to render medical aid. Farmer was transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Medical Center in Lawrenceburg. No major injuries were identified. He was released and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges that include evading arrest, reckless driving, driving on a suspended driver’s license, possession of meth for the purpose of resale, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was additional processed for two outstanding warrants charging him with violation of probation.
Farmer is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
