Arrestee Accused Of Leaving Wheelchair To Hit Man With Walking Stick
A Lawrenceburg man was jailed Wednesday for allegedly getting out of his wheelchair to strike a man with a walking stick.
According to a report filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to intervene in the altercation at 1057 Old Florence Road shortly before 7:30 p.m.
The victim told officers that he had no idea why seventy year old Gaylon Daniel Freemon struck him in the back of the head with the walking stick. He said that they had spoken to one another in passing when Freemon suddenly stood up from his wheelchair and struck him with the walking stick multiple times.
Freemon told officers that the victim had first attempted to hit him. He said that he had made threats toward him throughout the day, saying that he would “cut his throat.” He said that the man hit him on the shoulder, prompting him to act in self-defense. He said that he feared that the man would kill him.
Officers took statements from two witnesses. Both reported seeing the victim take a swing at Freemon after which they said Freemon struck him with the walking stick.
The walking stick was seized into evidence and Freemon was placed under arrest on charges of aggravated assault. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was jailed in lieu of a $3,000 bond.
