First Step Taken Toward Prohibiting Parking Along Section Of Parrish Street

Lawrenceburg leaders gave first approval Thursday to an ordinance that would prohibit parking along a section of Parrish Street.

If approved on second reading, the ordinance will regulate parking of vehicles on either side on the end of the street adjacent to Lafayette Avenue.

As the street is located near E.O. Coffman Middle School, it sees a considerable spike in traffic and parking at certain times of the day. It is the route utilized for bus traffic traveling to and from the school. The ordinance drafted states, “The Board of Mayor and Council…has found…that the hill on Parrish Street is narrow and dangerous when vehicles are parked thereon…creating an impediment for school busses, vehicles, and emergency vehicles when vehicles are parked on the street in that area.”

The ordinance would prohibit parking “for 800 feet east on Parrish to the bottom of the hill.” The ordinance must be approved on second and final reading before being implemented.
