Hayes Road resident apprehended after firing at police officer
Lawrenceburg Now
A Hayes Road resident was apprehended by authorities after firing at a police officer Thursday morning.
Reports show that Lawrenceburg Police officers were dispatched to intervene when a woman began making threats to take her own life. Reports indicate that as the officer approached the home, he heard the sound of a gunshot. He quickly took cover and radioed for backup.
Once additional officers were on the scene they made entry to the home to find that the woman, identified as thirty-three year old Brittany Nicole Story, had barricaded herself inside of a bedroom. Reports indicate that there was a smell of burnt gunpowder emanating from the bedroom and that Story refused to comply when asked repeatedly to open the door.
Officers eventually forced the door open and report that Story was sitting on the bed with one hand concealed beneath the bed linens. She ignored repeated orders to slowly show her hand. She did eventually comply, however, when an officer informed her that she would be tazed should she continue to refuse to cooperate.
Story was taken into custody at that point. Reports show that officers found a .45 caliber ACP handgun beneath the linens that had one round in the chamber and three in the magazine. Lying next to it was a box that contained between forty and fifty rounds of ammunition. One spent round was also recovered.
Officers discovered a hole in the sheetrock around eighteen inches from a window. They note that this was in the direction where the first officer on the scene had been approaching the home when fired upon. They also discovered a suicide note written on the back of the bedroom door in blue marker.
Story was transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg to undergo a mental evaluation. While there, she told officer that “She fired the round and refused to cooperate in an attempt to have police officers shoot her.”
As a result of the incident officers signed warrants charging Story with the crimes of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault of a police officer. The warrants were to be served upon her release from the medical facility.
