Local Man Arrested Friday On Domestic Assault Charge
A local man was taken into police custody Friday evening after he allegedly became involved in a domestic assault incident at a Lawrenceburg motel.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to intervene in the altercation at a motel on East Gaines Street, shortly before 7:30 p.m. They arrived to find the female victim, age 40, upset and bleeding behind her right ear.
The victim told officers that she and her boyfriend had been arguing on and off throughout the day inside their motel room. She said that after one argument she had left the room and checked with the motel office so that she could get a separate room.
She said that when she returned to retrieve her belongings, her boyfriend again argued with her. She said that the altercation turned physical and that she was thrown to the ground. She told officers that when she got to her feet and attempted to walk past him, her boyfriend pushed her into a wall, causing the injuries to her head.
The victim reported that she left the room, but that her boyfriend followed her, then pushed and struck her in the head several more times. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene to render aid. The victim, however, refused transport to the hospital.
Officers made contact with the suspect, thirty-three year old Ronnie Lee Baty, in a rear parking lot. They report that he appeared to be highly intoxicated and become verbally aggressive with police officers. He reported to officers that he, too, had been assaulted during the altercation however they noted that he “showed no signs of being assaulted.”
Baty was arrested on charges of public intoxication and domestic assault. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated under a bond of $250,000.
Baty has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on September 14, 2015.
Because the altercation occurred in the presence of the victim’s five year old son, officers referred the matter for review through the Department of Children’s Services.
