Lawrenceburg leaders vote to regulate parking along two city streets
Lawrenceburg Now
Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council have given initial approval to an ordinance that would regulate parking along two city streets for safety purposes.
Council members voted unanimously to approve the ordinance during their bi-monthly business meeting Thursday morning. The ordinance proposes that the city “regulate and prohibit parking of motor vehicles on the east side of Roberts Avenue and Maple Avenue.” Both streets are located off of Crescent Factory Road.
Council members explained that the streets are narrow and often cannot accommodate wide emergency vehicles, such as fire trucks and ambulances, when vehicles are parked along both sides of the street. The ordinance would prohibit parking on the east side of both streets.
Under the ordinance, those who violate the parking restrictions would have their vehicle towed. The owner would be issued a citation and “any person found guilty of parking in the “no parking” zone shall be fined not more than allowed by state law in addition to paying the expenses for removal of the vehicle.”
The ordinance was approved on first reading Thursday. If approved on second and final reading, it would become effective ten days following final passage.
