Resident Says Window Broken By Gunfire
A local man reported to authorities Wednesday that his window had been shattered by individuals firing weapons near his home.
The twenty-seven year old victim called Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies to his Harlan Drive home at around 6:15 p.m. He reported that he had been sitting in the living room when he heard the sound of glass breaking in a bedroom.
He said that he walked to the bedroom and found that the window had been broken by a bullet. He told deputies that just before the glass broke he had heard gunshots coming from the direction of Weakley Creek Road.
Deputies reported retrieving what appeared to be a .45 caliber bullet that was lying on the floor, just beneath the window. The deputy checked the area indicated by the victim, but reports that he was unable to make contact with any suspects at that time.
Shortly afterwards the deputy received a tip from an individual, indicating that the suspects were possibly at 591 Weakley Creek Road. Deputies made their way to the location and were able to speak with a couple. The female told deputies that her son-in-law had been shooting firearms earlier that date. The son-in-law came to the scene to speak with deputies and indicated that five different individuals had been firing the weapons.
A .45 caliber pistol was seized into evidence and the case was turned over for further investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
