Ethridge man injured after jumping from moving vehicle
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officials report that a local man sustained injury Tuesday afternoon when he apparently jumped from a moving vehicle.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department arrived at the 1600 block of South Locust Avenue, near Hilltop Market, to find the thirty-one year old man lying in a ditch in an unresponsive state.
The man’s brother told officers that he had picked the victim up from nearby Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems a few minutes before, but that they had been arguing as they left. He told officers that “he asked if (his brother) would like to get out of the vehicle.” In response, he said his brother suddenly opened the door and bailed out of the car while they were traveling at a speed of around 40 miles per hour. He explained to officers that his brother had a history of mental illness and suffered from both bipolar disorder and post traumatic stress disorder.
The victim’s wife, who was following behind them in another vehicle, agreed. She told officers that “it did not appear that (he) was pushed out.” Officers noted that “there were no indications that he was forced from the vehicle” and that it appeared that “he jumped of his own free will.”
Emergency Medical Service personnel rendered aid at the scene, then transported the victim back to the hospital for further treatment.
