Tennessee State Parks to Take Cyclists Across West Tennessee
Press release
Hundreds of cyclists from nearly 30 different states will converge on West Tennessee Sept. 16-20 for Tennessee State Parks’ annual Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT).
The 28th annual ride will wind riders through some of Middle and West Tennessee’s most scenic and charming communities, including Dickson, Wildersville, Buchanan, Savannah and Lawrenceburg. Riders will overnight at five Tennessee State Parks: David Crockett, Montgomery Bell, Natchez Trace, Paris Landing and Pickwick Landing.
“This week-long event will show visitors the best that Tennessee has to offer in terms of outdoor recreation and scenic beauty,” said Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill. “It is a great opportunity to partner with local communities to highlight what makes each town so special and attractive for visitors and residents alike.”
The five-day ride will wind riders across approximately 380 miles, beginning and ending at Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson. The ride is non-competitive and suitable for a range of skill levels.
“Every year we take riders through a different area, ensuring a unique experience for veteran riders as well as beginners,” said Morgan Gilman, race director with Tennessee State Parks.
Registration for the 2017 Fall BRAT begins at $150 for a two-day trip and $475 for the full five-day trip. The fee includes a fully supported route, lodging at five state park campsites, hot showers, meals (breakfast and supper), live entertainment and interpretive programming as well as an event t-shirt.
The BRAT is sponsored by Tennessee State Parks and benefits two non-profit organizations: the Tennessee Park Rangers Association and the Friend of the Cumberland Trail.
More information on the ride, including a map of the route and registration instructions, can be found at www.thebrat.org.
