Saturday night crash in Alabama claims life of Leoma man

Authorities report that a crash that occurred in North Alabama Saturday night resulted in the death of a Leoma resident.

The crash occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 72 near Rogersville, Alabama.

Authorities with Alabama Quad-Cities State Troopers indicate that twenty-eight year old Jonathan Wade Gooch of 55 Marks Branch Road, Leoma was traveling westbound in a 1977 GMC truck when he ran off the north side of the roadway near a bridge, coming to rest around thirty-five feet down an embankment.

Gooch was thrown threw the windshield and was found lying around fifty feet from the truck. He reportedly died at the scene from injuries he sustained.

Gooch's passenger, a twenty-one year old Leoma woman, sustained injuries in the crash and was airlifted from the scene to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

The crash currently remains under investigation.
