Subject Of Arrest Warrant Flees From Deputies

A young West Lawrence resident reportedly fled after being served with an arrest warrant at his J.R. Staggs Road home recently.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies had made their way to the home to serve an arrest warrant on a charge of violation of probation to twenty year old Cody Staggs. They report that after being awakened by a family member, he came downstairs to speak with them.

Deputies report that after speaking with them, Staggs asked to go back to his room upstairs, to get a shirt. A deputy escorted him upstairs, but says that “as soon as he went through the bedroom door he broke and ran, jumping through his bedroom window where a ladder was leaning against the home.” He indicated that Staggs escaped down the ladder, then fled into the woods.

At that time deputies returned to the sheriff’s department where an additional arrest warrant was obtained, charging Staggs with the crime of evading arrest. At the time reports were filed Staggs had not yet been apprehended.
