Several Checks Stolen From Ethridge Residence Are Forged
After discovering that his gun and checkbook had been stolen last week, an Ethridge man told authorities he learned that several of his checks had been forged and cashed.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department answered the Tuesday call to Marshall Lane. There, the sixty-six year old resident reported discovering that his .38 special revolver had been stolen along with a book of checks.
The victim said that immediately upon realizing that the book of checks was missing he contacted his bank. It was at that time that he learned that several of the checks had already been forged and cashed. The eight forged checks were written for a sum totaling nearly $750.
The victim told deputies that he suspected a couple of committing the crimes. He said that the female subject had even taken two of his bank statements from his mailbox in an attempt to, “copy his signature.” He told deputies that the pair had left the state, heading for Toledo, Ohio approximately one week before the discovery was made.
Investigation in the case is on-going at the current time.
