Awards Banquet For LCHS Shooting Team
The LCHS Shooting team held their annual awards banquet for the 2015 season on August 8th at Eagle Eye Shooting Complex. The team recap for all competitions for the year included one 1st place win, three 2nd place, and three 3rd place wins, including the 3rd place in the Regional shoot with a 482 team score out of a possible 500.
During these shoots individual achievements were awarded to Bobby Benson with a 1st Place High Score of 98, Jackson Woods with a 2nd Place High Score 95, Connor Walters 3rd Place High Score 95, Logan Cowheard 1st Place High Score, 96, and Rhett Yates Runner up High Score 99.
Recognition for the top 5 individual average scores for the season was given to Rhett Yates with 95.4avg, Bobby Benson 94.9, Logan Cowheard 93.0, Connor Walters 92.9 and Sam Brown 92.6.
Forty-four individual Patches were awarded to those athletes shooting 25, 50, or 75 straight, consecutive clays in competition without a miss, which included Chase Clayton, Tanner Staggs, Cole Watson, Tanner Clark, J.C. Mills, Cody Moss, Logan Cowheard, Jackson Woods, Connor Walters, Sam Brown, Rhett Yates, and Bobby Benson.
The Most Valuable Player awards were voted on by all the athletes and the Jr. Varsity MVP was awarded to Cody Moss. Cody ended the season with the highest Jr. Varsity Avg of 88.2 and won two 25 straight patches and one unforgettable 75 straight.
The Varsity MVP was Bobby Benson. This made the 2nd year Bobby was named MVP while ending with the 2nd highest competition average of 94.9, and achieved the most straight patches on the team with 8. Bobby’s competition scores this season were 98, 98, 97, and 96.
The most improved Jr. Varsity, voted by the coaches, went to Cody Moss. Cody started the season with his first ever shoot at 76 and ended on the last shoot before State with a 95.
Most improved Varsity was awarded to Sam Brown for his efforts in raising his overall competition average more than any other Varsity team member (5.2pts) and finished with the 5th highest average of 92.6.
The Top Gun Award, also voted on by the coaches, went to Rhett Yates, whom ended with the highest individual average of 95.4 and took more shots in practice and competition than any one on the team with 3,125 shells fired. Rhett tied for the most 25 straight patches at 4 and had the team highest number of 50 straight patches with 3 for the season.
Rhett also shot the team’s only 99 in competition this season and also had a 98, a 97, and two 96’s.
The Seniors attending their last banquet recognized were Bobby Benson, Derek Eaton, Ethan Wallace, Bethany Watson, and Jackson Woods. Eagle Eye Shooting Complex, Dura Automotive Systems, Kiwanis Club, and Lawrenceburg Rotary Club, Lawson’s, Top Gun and The Friends of the NRA were all recognized for their help and support as well as all of the parents and coaches.
The LCHS Shooting Team is coached by Head Coach Greg Holt, assistant coaches Shane Eaton, Cory Cowheard, and Shawn Walters.
