Former President Donald Trump has stated that his Florida home was raided by the FBI on Monday.

On Monday the Former President Donald Trump released a statement explaining how his home at Mar-a-Lago in Florida was raided by the FBI and how agents even cracked his safe open.

In Trump's written statement he spoke on the raid where he stated “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents. Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before. After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."

According to reports the search was tied to classified information that Trump allegedly took with him from the White House to his Palm Beach resort in January 2021.

Trump's lawyer Christina Bobb, who said she was present for Monday’s search, has stated that Trump and his team have been “cooperative with FBI and DOJ officials every step of the way,” while adding that the bureau “did conduct an unannounced raid and seized paper.

At the time of the search Trump was in New York as he prepares for a possible further presidential run in 2024.

Following this raid many Republicans have expressed their anger as House of Representatives Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy said: "The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponised politicisation."
