Lockdown procedures implemented at local schools in response to threat
Schools outside of threat-zone return to normal operations
Lawrenceburg Now
Local authorities report that lockdown procedures were implemented at schools throughout the county Tuesday afternoon in response to a threat that had been received by phone at Loretto High School.
The lockdown was lifted at other county schools at around 1:40 p.m., however precautions were still being taken at schools in the southern portion of the county, including Loretto High School, Leoma Elementary School, and South Lawrence Elementary School.
The incident currently remains under investigation.
Official Press release from LCSS
Lawrence County Schools implemented emergency procedures today as a result of an undisclosed threat phoned in to one of the system’s high schools. The reason for the drill was two-fold: It was done as a precaution to ensure safety and it allowed the school system to field test its drill notification system and processes.
School districts nationwide are urged to have detailed safety drills which are regularly reviewed and practiced. “We thank the entire county of Lawrence County for its patience this afternoon.
The emergency procedures that were implemented are there for a reason: To keep all our students safe” said Director of Schools Johnny McDaniel. “We used this as an opportunity to practice our district-wide crisis plan."
"WE want to sincerely thank the Lawrenceburg Police Department, the Lawrence County Sherriff’s Department, and the Loretto Police Department for their overwhelming swift and professional response. Thanks for help in keeping our students safe!”
