Shoplifters involved in police chase return the next day, are arrested
Lawrenceburg Now
A pair of shoplifters who led local police officers on a high-speed chase Wednesday afternoon returned to the same store Thursday morning only to be arrested.
Lawrenceburg Police Department reports show that when the reporting officer arrived at Walmart on North Locust Avenue just before 2:00 p.m., security personnel directed them to a green, two-door Hyundai that had just rounded the store building.
The officer caught sight of the suspect vehicle at the rear of the store and reports that it “was traveling at a high rate of speed while all over the road, heading east on Mattoxtown Road.”
The officer activated his emergency equipment then followed the driver, who turned south onto Nix Road. When the driver reached the dead end, reports show that she turned through a resident’s yard, drove back past the patrol car, returned to the roadway, then headed back toward Mattoxtown Road. The officer notes that the vehicle was traveling at speeds of between 80 and 100 miles per hour.
While the officer was following the female driver, reports show that a man in the passenger seat began throwing items out of the window. The officer continued the pursuit for another mile before breaking it off due to public safety concerns.
He then returned to the area where the items were thrown from the vehicle. He reports collecting two syringes, a clear plastic bag, a plastic container that held cotton filters, and a glass meth pipe bearing drug residue. A BOLO was also issued for the vehicle throughout Lawrence County and surrounding areas.
The officer returned to Walmart where he was able to obtain video showing the vehicle and the occupants. The video showed that the woman had stolen two boxes of hair dye, with a combined value of $18.96, before leaving the store.
At 7:45 Thursday morning the reporting officer was notified that the couple had returned to Walmart. Store security personnel and police officers were able to make contact with the pair and take them into custody without incident. They were identified as April Kayla Parrott, 23, of Adamsville, TN and Jackie Lynn Pinson, age 29, of Savannah, TN.
The officer noted that Parrott was in possession of several Visa cards, none of which belonged to her. She was holding a bag of items she had just purchased. The officer checked the receipt and discovered the purchases had been made fraudulently with one of the cards.
A receipt that was found inside the couple’s car indicated they had used the same card to make a purchase earlier in the day at a Hasti-Mart in Waynesboro. The officer contacted the card owner who reported he had lost his card around the ATM area at Walmart a couple of days prior.
Reports show that a used, glass meth pipe was found inside Partott’s purse when officers searched the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Pinson was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and littering. Parrott was jailed for the crimes of possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal trespassing, and two counts of fraudulent use of a debit card. Both have been scheduled an initial General Sessions court date of September 1, 2017.
