LCHS Shooting Team Award Banquet 2016
The LCHS Shooting Team held their annual awards banquet at Eagle Eye Shooting Complex on August 7th. Seven departing Seniors were recognized; Brown Boyd, Tanner Clark Grant Counce, Logan Cowheard, Evan Johns, Connor Walters, and Rhett Yates.
The top 5 competition averages for the year were Connor Walters – 93.0, Sam Brown – 92.5, Rhett Yates & JC Mills Tied – 90.83, and Logan Cowheard – 90.80.
This season 21 patches were won in competitions for either 25 or 50 Straight hit clays without a miss; Connor Walters – Four 25 Straight, JC Mills – Four 25 Straight, Rhett Yates – Two 50 Straight, and One 25 Straight, Sam Brown – Two 50 Straight, Tanner Clark – Two 25 Straight, Logan Cowheard - Two 25 Straight, Grant Counce – One 25 Straight, Chase Clayton – One 25 Straight, Evan Johns – One 25 Straight.
Three shooters made the SCTP All-State Team by meeting the requirements of shooting a minimum average of 92 at the Regional and State Shoots and having a minimum of a 92 GPA.
The three student athletes meeting these requirements were Connor Walters = 95.5 Avg Regional & State, Rhett Yates = 94.5 Avg Regional & State and Logan Cowheard = 92.0 Avg Regional & State.
The Most Improved Junior Varsity Award went to Ali Beck by scoring a 87 at the State Tournament, which was good enough to be listed as 5th in the State out of 42 other JV Ladies.
The Varsity Most Improved Award went to Kenedy Holt who raised her competition score more than any shooter on the team by 9.2 points and also had an AIMS - D Class Runner-Up Medal with a score of 93.
The Varsity MVP, which was voted by the student athletes, is Rhett Yates. Rhett’s competition average this year was 90.8, with his last three shoots averaging 95.3, with one score of 97, high enough to make him AIMS Junior Class HOA Runner Up. He was also awarded Two 50 Straight, and One 25 Straight this season as well as being named to the All-State team.
The Top Gun Award went to Connor Walters. Connor had the highest competition average on the team this year with a 93.0, while scoring a 96 at the Regional Shoot and 95 at the State Shoot. He was awarded one AIMS B Class Runner Up this year. He was awarded four 25 Straight patches this year with the last 25 he ever shot as a high school senior at the State shoot being a 25 Straight. He also was awarded All-State and LCHS Shooting Team’s first ever SCTP Scholarship winner.
This year’s Lawrence County Shooting Team was coached by Head Coach Greg Holt, Assistants Shawn Walters and David Mills.
