Arrest made in assault of seven year old
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers arrested a local man on Thursday after he allegedly assaulted his roommate’s seven year old son.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to investigate the assault at a home on Jackson Street just before 6:30 p.m. The child’s mother told officers that when her roommate, twenty-six year old Kenneth Dean Andrews awoke, her young son had “run up to him” and that Andrews struck the child on the top of the head.
A witness told officers that Andrews, “Hit the child like he was hitting a grown man.”
Officers spoke with Andrews who told them that he had “just woke up and was in an ill mood.” He admitted to them that when the boy ran up to him and attempted to tickle him he struck him on the top of his head with an open hand. He told officers that he “felt bad” about the incident and that he had “just snapped for some reason and hit the child.”
Officers spoke with the young boy who reported that Andrews had struck him in the past, as well. As a result of the investigation Andrews was placed under arrest on a charge of domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for booking. He was incarcerated under a $1,000 conditional bond that prohibits him from being around the child.
Andrews has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on September 12, 2016.
