Due to the severity of injuries, the Lawrenceburg Police Dept.’s Critical Accident Response Team (CART) was called to the scene to begin the investigation. Initial reports reveal that a Gold 2000 model Mercury Station Wagon, driven by Gary Belew, age 64 of Leoma, TN, was traveling north on Hwy 43 and began to turn into Rick’s BBQ, turning into the path of a Maroon 1979 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, driven by Emmett E. Vincent, age 61 of Leoma, TN, causing the two vehicles to collide head-on.
Mr. Vincent sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital by Air Evac. Mr. Belew was found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and subsequently arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Mr. Belew is charged with DUI 1st and Vehicular Assault, and is being held on a $101,000 bond. Mr. Belew is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on September 2nd, 2016. The crash remains under investigation by the CART.
