Loretto Board Names Director For New Parks And Recreation Program
Loretto city leaders named Mitch Webb to serve in the newly-created capacity of Parks and Recreation Director during a meeting of the Board of Alderman Tuesday.
Mayor Jesse Turner explains, “The City was recently awarded a Tennessee Recreation Initiative Program (TRIP) grant from the State of Tennessee to develop a professional Parks and Recreation Program. It is a three year partnership with the state with the goal of the City developing a self-sustaining Parks and Recreation Program.”
As directed under the agreement, the city solicited applications for the position. Individuals meeting minimum requirements outlined for the post, including a Bachelors degree in parks and recreation or a related field, submitted applications to the State of Tennessee Recreational Services Program. The applications were reviewed and five candidates were interviewed. Webb was selected from that group. Turner said that Webb will begin his new duties on August 17.
In other business, aldermen voted to make application for Safety Partners Grant funding, which is made available through the Tennessee Municipal League’s Risk Management Pool. If received the funds would be earmarked for the purchase of tasers for the city police department.
Aldermen voted to donate a used ambulance and engine from the city’s fire department to Southeast Fire Department. Also, members voted to delay action on an ordinance that was to be considered on second reading. It would modify the city’s Alcoholic Beverages Ordinance to allow the “issuance of temporary beer permits for bona fide charitable and nonprofit organizations for special events.” The item will be brought for consideration during the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting, on September 8.
