Couple Cited After Allegedly Using Drugs Inside Park
Police officers issued charges against a local couple last week after they allegedly used drugs while on the premises of a city park.
An officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department reports that he was on patrol Friday, stopping at Hope Springs Park on Old Waynesboro Highway. He reports that he was approached by a subject who pointed out that a man was “passed out” inside his vehicle near the creek.
When the officer approached the van, he notes that the driver was slumped over with a book in his hand. He also found that a “half clothed” female subject was asleep on a blanket in the rear of the van. He woke the pair, advising them that they were trespassing on city property. They told the officer that they were “just resting and taking it easy.”
The officer noted that the woman had fresh needle marks on both of her arms. She admitted that she had injected suboxone earlier in the day. She told the officer that she had a spoon, syringe, and the belt she used as a tourniquet, inside the vehicle. Once he obtained permission to search the van, the officer seized the items into evidence.
The driver told the officer that they had been parked in the spot for eight or nine hours. He questioned the woman about the time of her drug usage. He said that she admitted that she had injected the drugs while at the park.
As a result of the incident the woman, thirty year old Heather Frances Atchison of 112 Rabbit Trail Road, was issued citations on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver, Kenneth Jackson Tubville, age 74, was issued charges for driving on a revoked license and trespassing. Both are scheduled to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 4, 2015.
