Citizen tips lead to drug arrest

Tips received from the public led to an arrest and seizure of drugs at a Mt. Pleasant home this week.

According to information released through the 22nd Judicial District Drug Task Force the operation led to the arrest of Anthony Barnett. The arrest was the result of a joint operation between the Task Force and the Lawrence County Drug Unit.

Authorities had outstanding warrants against Barnett and received tips indicating that he was staying at a home in Mt. Pleasant. When agents arrived, they report that Barnett stepped out of the home, onto the porch and was taken into custody without incident.

Agents were able to obtain written consent from the homeowner to conduct a search of the premises. They report seizing 9.5 grams of a crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, along with syringes from Barnett's personal belongings.

Barnett was transported to the Maury County Jail where he was booked under charges of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of resale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
