Internet Outage Tuesday
From the Tennessean
Latest Update: 6:02 p.m.: An AT&T spokesperson has said a "hardware related issue" has caused the widespread mobile service outage that has affected customers of multiple carriers in the Southeast.
"Engineers have pinpointed a hardware-related issue and are working to restore service as quickly as possible," Cathy Lewandowski, an AT&T spokesperson, said in a statement Tuesday evening.
The outage has affected multiple carriers, including Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, as well as AT&T.
A major AT&T outage has affected much of Tennessee and Kentucky Tuesday, as well as parts of Alabama and Georgia. The outage has knocked out Internet and phone signal to thousands of customers in the states.
An outage map showed much of Tennessee and Kentucky covered in red circles indicating the areas affected. The Nashville Metropolitan area and the surrounding counties were among the worst affected.
"We are investigating the cause and working as quickly as possible to restore service," Lewandowski wrote in an email earlier. "We apologize for this inconvenience."
Karen Schulz, a spokesperson from Verizon, shared a similar statement.
"A connectivity issue is currently causing a service interruption," she wrote. "Our engineers are aware of this issue and are working with our vendor partners to resolve this issue quickly. At present, we do not have an estimated time of resolution."
T-Mobile has acknowledged the outage on its Twitter page, and spokesperson Scott Goldberg also issued an official statement from the company.
"We understand that all mobile providers are being affected in a regional area," the statement said. "Our engineers are in touch with the vendor regarding the source of the issue affecting customers. They are working to restore service in the area as soon as possible."
