Rescue operations undertaken during Friday flooding
Lawrenceburg Now
Emergency personnel spent the day Friday monitoring flood waters and rescuing individuals who became trapped as the result of flooding.
Lawrenceburg Fire Chief Jay Moore said that after members of his department and the Ethridge Fire Department were called out to help, they requested mutual aid from the Columbia/Maury County Swift Water Rescue Team.
Members of that department traveled to Lawrenceburg on standby in order to cover any additional calls.
The local Swift Water Rescue Team was called to Flatwoods Road Friday morning where one person had become trapped inside of a vehicle in high waters. They were able to quickly rescue the person before being called to Big Springs Fork where floodwaters had trapped a couple inside of their home. In this instance firefighters were able to bring the couple to safety, as well.
All of the victims were uninjured, however one firefighter did sustain a minor injury.
Moore said that as the waters continued to rise, his department was dispatched to the Hope Springs area on reports of some people playing in floodwaters.
He said that they made contact with the persons and explained the dangers the floodwaters posed, and they agreed to leave the area.
Moore wished to express his appreciation for the assistance given by all those involved in Friday's rescue efforts, with special thanks to the Ethridge and Columbia/Maury County departments.
