Motorist assaulted while giving pedestrian a ride
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers spoke with a Leoma man last week who reported that he had been assaulted while giving a pedestrian a ride.
The victim, age 25, told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department that he had been traveling south on Rabbit Trail Road when the incident occurred. He said as he approached the Second Creek Road intersection a woman "ran out of the woods and looked worried." He said he stopped to see of she was okay and that she said "she was running from her abusive husband."
The victim offered to give the woman a ride. He said immediately after she entered his car she pulled out a knife and held it to his throat. He said the woman ordered him to drive to Bonnertown Baptist Church, and that he complied.
When they arrived at the church, the victim said the woman grabbed his vehicle registration, looked at the address, then told him "if he tells anyone about what happened she would kill his whole family." He said she left the registration inside his car, got out, ran to a white 1990s model Toyota Corolla bearing Alabama tags, and drove away.
The victim was able to provide deputies with a description of his attacker. Investigation into the matter is on-going at the present time.
