Lawrenceburg man is arrested in connection with hit and run report

A Lawrenceburg man was arrested late last week in the wake of an investigation regarding a hit and run incident reported through the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

Responding officers report that they were dispatched to a bridge located at the West Gaines Street/Old Waynesboro Highway intersection where they spoke with the driver. He told officers that he had been traveling westbound when an eastbound vehicle lost a tire, which struck his vehicle. He told officers that the driver continued on, failing to stop, but that he was able to obtain a license plate number to aid in identification.

Officers soon located the vehicle in question on Waterloo Street. They report that it was being driven by thirty-three year old Anthony Curt McGee of 707 Fisher Alley. When questioned, McGee told officers that he had not stopped because he had no insurance and his driver’s license had been revoked. He said that he had not known that the tire had struck another vehicle.

McGee was arrested on a charge of driving on a revoked license and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for processing. He was issued citations on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to provide proof of insurance. He was incarcerated under a bond of $2,000.

McGee will be required to answer the charges through General Sessions Court on September 1, 2016.
