Authorities investigate animal cruelty complaint

Law enforcement officials were called upon during the weekend to investigate an alleged instance of animal cruelty.

A concerned citizen requested that officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department be dispatched to 1415 Beckham Avenue regarding a caged dog on the front porch. Officers report finding that there was a brown dog on the porch inside of a cage that was so small it was unable to stand up. They noted that there was a bag of dog food on the front porch, but that the dog had access to neither food nor water.

Officers looked in the back yard and found that a second dog was inside of what they described as an “adequately sized pen.” They found that the second dog also had no access to food or water.

The complainant was able to provide officers with the name of the person who resided at the home, but said that she had been away for around a week.

Officers fed and watered the dog in the back yard, however the caged dog was taken to the Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter.
