Ethridge PD Makes Arrest, Seizes Drugs During Traffic Stop
Members of the Ethridge Police Department arrested a Columbia man earlier this month after they found drugs and other contraband inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.
According to a press release issued through the department, officers conducted the traffic stop on Highway 43, just north of Rick’s BBQ, on July 10. They cited two separate traffic violations that led to the stop.
While they were speaking with driver Luis Antonio Ascencio, they report noticing various items of drug paraphernalia lying in plain sight inside the vehicle, along with what they believed to be a loaded handgun.
As a result of the discovery a search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers report seizing the Taurus .38 revolver and drug paraphernalia along with approximately six ounces of what they suspected to be methamphetamine, trace amounts of marijuana, and $3,766 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales. They report that the meth had a street value of around $36,000.
Ascencio was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was processed, then later released from custody under a bond of $125,000.
