Neighbor notifies owners of home burglary
Lawrenceburg Now
An alert neighbor spotted a burglary in progress on Wesley Chapel Road recently, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
A deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department dispatched to the home reported seeing twenty-four year old Jacob Brandon Smith of 2007 West Gaines Street, Lawrenceburg standing beside a red truck in the driveway, carrying a pool float before he walked into the garage of the home.
When the deputy pulled up, he reports that Smith exited from the garage. He told the deputy that, "He was there alone and had only come to the residence to return a pool float he had borrowed from his buddy." He told the deputy that, "He came to the residence quite frequently and swam in their pool and hung out."
When the deputy spoke with the homeowner by phone, he said that his neighbor had called him to inform him of the burglary. He said that Smith "had no business being at his house."
Smith told the deputy that when he arrived the door was locked so he raised the window to yell to anyone inside. He said when he got no answer he went to the detached garage, opened the door, and was in the process of placing a pool float inside when the deputy arrived.
When the female homeowner arrived, she noticed some items missing from the garage. A hedge trimmer was missing along with the pool float, a leaf blower, and a set of golf clubs. The deputy found a black backpack inside Smith's truck that contained a number of bottles of alcoholic beverages. Reports indicate that the bottles had been taken from a cooler at the home. The items had a collective value of $832.98.
The deputy placed Smith under arrest on charges of aggravated burglary, burglary, and theft. Smith was then transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for incarceration.
