Ethridge police arrest one individual following pursuit
press release from the Ethridge Police Department
On July 13, 2016 at around 9:15 p.m. an officer with the Ethridge Police Department attempted to stop Courtney V. Elrod, Jr,. for a speeding violation in Ethridge near Dollar General on Highway 43.
Elrod refused to pull over and a pursuit began towards Lawrenceburg. Several Lawrenceburg officers were in the area of Wal-Mart and were able to join in the attempt to get Elrod stopped. Elrod drove into town, down Helton Drive and cut across several side roads eventually making his way to Buffalo Road. He pulled into an apartment complex on Clearview Drive and was then removed from his vehicle and placed under arrest without further incident.
When officers asked why he ran, Elrod first stated, “He was afraid to stop because he didn’t want officers to shoot him because he was black.” Later Elrod admitted he ran so he could get his vehicle home because he knew he would be arrested for driving on a revoked driver’s license and he knew his vehicle would be towed.
Elrod was booked on evading arrest, reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked driver’s license and speeding. He was held on a bond of $8,000.
In closing, the Ethridge Police Department would like to thank the Lawrenceburg Police Department and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
