Pair arrested while in possession of stolen canoe
Lawrenceburg Now
Two local men were arrested during the weekend when they were found to be in possession of a stolen canoe.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, a resident of Portland, Tennessee reported Saturday afternoon that someone had stolen her thirteen-foot Masate Motion canoe, valued at $1,050, from a friend’s home while they were asleep inside. She told officers that she and her boyfriend had been able to locate their canoe in Hope Springs Park.
When officers arrived at the park they were able to make contact with two young men who ultimately confessed to the crime. The canoe was returned to the owner and both men were issued citations.
Both Curry Ramsey Brown Norwood, age 20, of 3495 Gimlet Road and Charles Isaac Detwile, Jr., age 23, of 1604 Deer Hollow Drive were cited for one count of theft and two counts of vandalism. One vandalism charge resulted from damage to the tie downs that secured the canoe. The second was issued because the men had removed the serial number.
Both Norwood and Detwile are slated to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on November 1, 2017.
