City of Loretto selected to receive $275,000 grant
from Loretto Mayor Jesse Turner
I am pleased to announce that I was contacted by State Representative Barry Doss and State Senator Joey Hensley who both informed me that the City of Loretto was chosen by the Tennessee Department of Transportation to receive a Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) grant and a Community Transportation Planning grant.
The TAP grant is in the amount of $275,000 which will be matched by the City in the amount of $68,750 for a total of $343,750. This will fund the construction of new sidewalks and ADA upgrades along Main Street from Commerce Street to Church Street including crosswalks, utility relocation, landscaping, and pedestrian lighting. This is a great project that will beautify and enhance our downtown area.
The Community Transportation Planning grant is in the amount of $30,000 and will identify projects and strategies for bicycle and pedestrian facilities along US Highway 43 and address how to connect neighborhoods within easy walking and cycling distance of US 43. This plan will help us strategize where to implement new investments for our City with grant programs such as the TAP program as well as other programs available to us.
This is yet another way we can make our City an attractive place to live, work, and play as well as address livability concerns. I appreciate Representative Doss and Senator Hensley for their assistance helping us obtain this funding.
