Kroger is collecting signatures in it's Lawrenceburg store to get wine on the ballot in November
To sign the petition registered voters must live in the city of Lawrenceburg
Kroger invites registered voters in the city of Lawrenceburg to visit their store located at 1700 North Locust to sign the referendum to get wine in retail food stores on the ballot in November. The previous referendum effort in 2014 in Lawrenceburg failed as the required number of verified voter signatures was not reached.
“We are pleased to now be selling wine in over 100 Kroger stores across the state, but disappointed that we cannot yet sell wine in our Lawrenceburg store,” said Melissa Eads, Kroger spokesperson. “We hope registered voters in the city of Lawrenceburg will answer the call and help us reach the required number this time around.”
Legislation passed by the Tennessee General Assembly in March of 2014 required a referendum be held in each municipality in order to get wine on the ballot. That happened in a large number of cities across the state, and then 100% of those cities voted yes for wine in retail foods stores in November of 2014. On Friday, July 1, 2016 that bill became a reality when hundreds of retail food stores began selling wine across the state.
Kroger invites Lawrenceburg voters to visit their store at any time between now and July 24th to sign the petition. Qualifying signatures must come from registered voters in the city of Lawrenceburg, voters must sign the petition exactly as their name appears on their voter’s registration card, and the address listed must match the address on file with the election commission. The store will have a sign up table on the following days and times, plus the petition will always be available at the customer service desk.
Wednesdays from 10am – 6pm
Fridays from 3pm – 7pm
Saturdays from 10am – 6pm
Sundays from noon – 5pm
