Woman checks house and finds someone has been staying there in her absence
Lawrenceburg Now
A local woman reported to law enforcement authorities last week that she had gone to check on her property on Hardin Loop in West Point only to find that someone had been residing there in her absence.
The victim, age twenty-five, reported the matter to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. She said that she had been away from the house for around three weeks. When she arrived that day, she found that the front door had been kicked in, resulting in around fifty dollars’ worth of damage to the door frame.
When she entered the home, the victim said she discovered that there were lawn chairs and clothing inside that did not belong to her. She told deputies that it appeared someone had been staying there.
Neighbors reported seeing a dark color Volkswagen with no license plates at the home. They told authorities that the people driving the vehicle had been “in and out of the residence.”
The victim told deputies that she had already moved everything of value out of the house and that she had experienced no substantial loss as a result of the crime.
Also found at the home was a red Chevrolet Z71 truck that had been left in the driveway. Deputies ran a check on the license plate, but learned that the number was not on file. They were able to obtain a name from the registration paperwork inside the truck. There was also a tub sitting on the front passenger side seat of the truck that was filled with women’s and baby clothing.
At the time reports were filed investigation into the crime was still underway.
