Homeless man arrested after jumping into car at intersection
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers arrested a local man late last week after he allegedly jumped into a car when the driver stopped at an intersection.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department spoke with the twenty-eight year old victim who reported that the incident had occurred at around 12:30 Friday morning at the Buffalo Road/Thomas Street intersection.
The victim told officers that when she stopped at the intersection, a man opened her passenger door and began to get inside. She said that she was trying to push him out of her car and throughout the struggle he was cursing and calling her derogatory names. She said that it was not until she took out her cell phone and told him she was calling for police assistance that he got out of the car and fled.
The victim told officers that she was “extremely scared” by the incident, and that she had rushed home to her family. She said that she was hesitant about reporting the matter, but had decided to do so “so nobody else had this happen to them.”
The victim was able to identify the man through a picture posted on Facebook. Officers conferred with officials at the District Attorney’s office who advised them to arrest the suspect on a charge of attempted robbery.
Officers obtained a warrant then arrested the suspect, identified as thirty-one year old Justin Lee Martin, who is said to be homeless. He was subsequently incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center.
