Child finds gun stolen from Florence while playing along creek
Lawrenceburg Now
A Lawrenceburg mother requested an investigation last weekend after her son found a firearm in a tree while playing along a creek bank.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to an area on Scott Street at around 4:30 Sunday afternoon. The boy took them to the area where he had found the Weatherby 12 gauge pump shotgun.
After traversing a dirt path several hundred feet to a spot just north of the old swinging bridge, the boy showed them where the shotgun had been lying on top of several bushes, approximately six feet off of the ground. Officers noted that, “The way the gun was discovered almost seemed as if it was tossed from the road above, down into the foliage.”
When they ran a check on the serial number, officers were informed that the shotgun had been reported stolen out of Florence, Alabama on March 10 of this year. Officers noted that the lack of rust and damage from the elements seemed to indicate that it had only been in the woods for a short period of time.
The shotgun was taken into evidence. Investigation into the matter is on-going at the present time.
