Officers work cases involving counterfeit money
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg Police officers were called upon to investigate two separate incidents involving counterfeit money during the holiday weekend.
Officers were called to McDonald’s on North Locust Avenue on Saturday where the manager reported that a man who had come through the drive-thru window had attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. She told officers that he “seemed to have a handful of them.”
A “be on the lookout” alert was issued and the officer was able to locate the suspect vehicle a short time later in the parking lot at Walmart. They made contact with the driver, a forty-three year old resident of Summertown, who told them he had been paid cash for some recent concrete jobs he had performed, and speculated that that was when he had obtained the bill.
The man gave officers consent to search all of his belongings and look at the remainder of his cash. They report that no additional counterfeit bills were found and he was allowed to leave.
In a separate incident, officers responded to Community Bank where officials reported that a counterfeit $10 bill had been identified in the deposit from a local convenience store. The store owner spoke with officers. He said that he had not realized the bill was fake until the bank clerks informed him. He said that he would advise his clerks to “be more alert and check their bills.”
