Medical trash repeatedly discarded in business dumpster

Items of medical trash have been repeatedly discarded in the dumpster of at least one Lawrenceburg business.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were called upon to investigate Tuesday by the manager of Burkes Outlet, located at 2006 North Locust Avenue.

The manager told police officers that someone had been habitually dumping their household trash along with used medical supplies, such as IV tubing and catheters, in the business’ dumpster, situated at the rear of the building. She said that she had been noticing the items in the dumpster for around three months.

Officers spoke with officials from the Sanitation Department who also reported seeing the items in the refuse stream for a few months. He told officers that, although the workers at the landfill did not have to handle the items, he was concerned about potential environmental hazards.

The incident currently remains under investigation.
