Loretto High School Agriculture/FFA Camp

Fifteen students from the Loretto Community participated this summer in the Loretto High School Agriculture/FFA Camp. Students were exposed to vast variety of different topics in agriculture.

The students met with the Tennessee Agricultural Crime Unit to discuss the various ag crimes that are seen around the state. They also had the opportunity to tour a local veterinary office (Dr. Tim Hammond) and a local beef cattle farm (Five Oaks Cattle Farm).

Dr. Hammond spoke to the students about various topics which included breeding soundness exams, reproduction in beef cattle, and day to day operation of a veterinary clinic.

Marty Gamble, owner of Five Oaks Cattle Farm, spoke to the students about the day to day operation of a commercial beef cattle farm. These students also heard from the Tennessee Poultry Association and Aviagen regarding the impact poultry plays in the state of Tennessee.

Tennessee Forestry Commission discussed the economic impact forestry plays in Tennessee, in addition to tree identification and basic timber cruising. Finally, all of this would not have been possible without the generous donation that TVA provided to put on the camp.

TVA also provided a speaker that discussed the different environmental programs that TVA offers and provides.
