Authorities investigating repeated instances of utilities theft from school

Lawrenceburg Now

Local law enforcement officers investigating repeated instances of the theft of utility services from a Lawrenceburg school responded to another such call late last week.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were called to Ingram Sowell Elementary School on Seventh Street at around 10:30 Friday morning.

School maintenance workers had discovered a portable power source plugged into an exterior electrical outlet at the school’s outdoor classroom. The power source had been left to charge, with a dual burner hot plate lying next to it. Both, reports show, were concealed from view by shrubs.

Reports indicate that the department has been investigating other such reports regarding the theft of utility services from the school. Suspects have been identified in connection with those cases. Reports show that officers spoke with the suspects, but that they denied ownership of both the power source and hot plate.

Investigation into the incidents is on-going at the current time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
